Our Philosophy

The aim of Totara Hill Montessori is to provide quality education in a small and homely environment.

Small class numbers encourage intimate quality relationships to form with teachers and children fostering the feeling of belonging.

Being an owner operated preschool ensures consistency, offering four fully qualified teachers who are committed to providing quality preschool education.

Parent evenings are held once a term, introductory evenings twice a year, parent teacher meetings and social events helps to foster the relationships and links with the home environment.

Families are asked to commit to attending these events where there is time to share with parents stories of their childs journey, further nurturing the feeling of belonging and creating a safe, trusting environment where we can all share our experiences and our commitment.

Our programme is based around the principles of the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whāriki incorporating
Whakamana (Belonging), Kotahitanga (Holistic Development), Whanau Tangata (Family and community and Hga Hononga (Relationships).

We are committed to working along side local Maori and to including Te Reo as an important and integral part of our curriculum. We enjoy celebrating the biculturalism and multi culturalism of Aotearoa.
